Studio Practice?

I am spending a lot of time working in a new space. It is carrel 976 on the 9th floor of the Jackson Library. I wanted to invite everyone to visit the space. There is a pen and paper in the carrel and I would love to hear some of your thoughts about the space. I am working here in conjunction with looking at artists like, Mario Garcia Torres, Frances Stark, Allora and Calzadilla, and Suzanne Lacy to name a few.

  1. Check out this graduate school project by Harrell Fletcher: Alternative Library. http://www.harrellfletcher.com/1992/ccac_library/set.html

"When I got to graduate school I was disappointed by the libraries' book selection. I decided that in response I would open my own library in a corner of the existing school library. I worked with another grad student Doug Helikson to build a little room out of steel and plexiglass, and then I brought in my own collection of books and checked them out to anyone who stopped by for a visit. Eventually people started donating books to me and I got interns to sit in the library when I wasn't there. After a year the librarian became threatened by the success of my project and kicked me out."
